This sketch is based on [livejournal.com profile] stryck's beautiful short story, Starlit Rays, about a school of star rays, which are like manta rays that live in deep space and feed on stars. In this scene, a young star ray named Scyne becomes separated from the school when she chases after a comet for a snack.

Oh, wow, I love the use of negative space there.

Cool! I loved the story when I read it -- it's nice to see little Scyne and her comet.

Oh, I like this. And I like that it looks like there are two little people in the ray's body. I'm assuming that's not what's supposed to be there, but it's what I see...

I'm having trouble seeing what shape the sky critter is. I'd like to see a little more detail! But I love this idea and I'm glad you're working on this.

It took me a moment to pick out the details, but I love the shading!

It took me a few seconds but I was able to see where the comet ends and Scyne begins. I guess the lighting's going to be pretty tricky on this one?

Black ray on a starry background. ^.^ Maybe it would be easier if the comet were bigger? More of a direct contrast, at least on the underside.

Possibly! I didn't offer any suggestions myself because stick figures and simple geometric shapes are the extent of my drawing expertise. ;)

I couldn't see any face features so it took [livejournal.com profile] stryck's post above for me to see it. So Cool.

Definitely an improvement! I'd love to see it with some subtle color added.

That's really cool! It would look awesome in color.

Oooh, much easier to see. I love how the whole picture seems so sparkly and alive, between the glow on Scyne and the stars in the background.

Yay!

This definitely looks clearer now. It's easier to see the outline of the ray shape.
