I just got back from the optometrist, who gave me a prescription for computer glasses, one for allergy eye drops...and a really big bill -_- The new glasses should do a lot to alleviate the strain of looking at a screen all day, so I can spend more time making art! Now I just have to decide whether I prefer bronze or silver for the frames...
ellenmillion is now taking prompts for free abstract paintings! Tips are optional, but she has some great perks for everyone who donates, including (animated!)icons, original ACEOs, and bigger paintings.
ysabetwordsmith posted an article yesterday about People who boost the signal in crowdfunding". I'd love to see what supporters think about this. What motivates you to promote a project? What kind of perks to you like in exchange?

What do you think?

- I like the person who runs the project and want to help them out.
- I like the project and want to see it get bigger.
- I think there are people watching my Twitter feed or whatever who might be interested.

I don't think they are neccessary for spreading the word...
I've got to admit I jumped in and asked

Date: 2011-08-09 09:49 pm (UTC)What makes me a regular barker for a project? It has to produce material that is always or almost always cool, that both I and my audience will probably like, and preferably bits that stand well on their own in case people don't follow all of it. I'm also more inclined to do frequent pimpage for friends whose projects I like if they're linking to my work too.
For perks, I like getting extras for something that has already hooked my interest. That's part of why I offered the verse-by-verse epic as a linkbacks perk: I already knew that my audience liked series poems and sequential revelation. It's also closely related to your linkback perk, where the sketch with the most linkbacks will get an extra round of revision. I think my most consistent promotions are all for art: Story Sketches, Moonvoice's art over on Dreamwidth, and Icon Day by
For barker perks, you might let someone designate a sketch to work on further, or a particular detail in a sketch. Free icons are another good option: yours are nifty and popular, and they're small enough that they shouldn't require too much work from you. Plus icons are free advertising for your art skills -- look how much traffic

Date: 2011-08-10 10:36 pm (UTC)One other thing I'm considering is the possibility of rewarding referrals. I've had a few commenters mention whose link they followed to find me, so that's something I could start tracking. Maybe x number of referrals in a month can earn a free icon or equivalent amount of work on a sketch of your choice. Would something like that appeal to you?

>>Aldersprig did raise an objection last month to the possibility of her sketches winning twice in a row, so if this trend continues (and from my latest count, it looks like it will) I'd certainly be willing to let either of you choose another sketch to be worked on instead. <<
*ponder* That's a good solution, probably better than just skipping a given sketch or person.

Yes! That would be awesome. It's also useful to me, for learning what impact I have when I rec stuff. I was amazed to discover that I accounted for 9/10 of the traffic in
