preview: mother-tongue (top half)

from Mother-Tongue by [personal profile] jjhunter

I'm having some trouble remembering what I planned to do with Grendel's mother...the squiggles I put down aren't as descriptive as I apparently thought they were >.< I think the Heaney translation described her as somewhat monstrous...

I am terrifically excited about this--can't wait to see the second half, which I'm assuming is the Grendel's mother panel. In some ways her story picks up where Beowulf's mother's leaves off (albeit with a little overlap). It'd be interesting if in the final panel one could see traces of little Beowulf in big 'monster'-slaying Beowulf, or some kind of dialogue between the two sections (and maybe between all the paired sections?). Both their stories 'end' in Beowulf in some way, in the seamless turn away from the women's stories and straight back into Men Men Monster-Slaying Men Yay time.

Anyway, just a thought. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be fabulous, and I'm interested in sponsoring more detail once the drafts are done.

ETA: I'm so very happy with icon you made for me. <3 <3 <3

Neat! I look forward to seeing this one finished; I've never seen this style of art created step-by-step before and it's fun to watch.

I like the serial effect of the illustrations.

That's very pretty! I especially love the woman weaving, as she looks pregnant [and I'm apparently drawn to that right now].
