Hmm...
Some of the Torn World stories deal with snow-unicorn breeding and/or genetics. There's one long multi-part story in progress, "Wild Snowy Chase," that deals with people pursuing an unexpected fresh source of genes; and my short story "On the Rocks" also mentions the challenge of keeping the herd going.

I have to sit down and discuss goat genetics with @Capriox at some point, since I'm still world-building on the fly (she raises Boers)

A note of warning, though: they're rough drafts, so a few things about the world (for example, the goats) aren't accurate in the older stories.
